Hardwood Flooring from G. Fried Flooring & Design in Paramus, NJ

Two companies that make hardwood flooring eco-friendly

Being environmentally conscious doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style, creativity, or innovation, and we work with two hardwood manufacturers that prove it: Mercier and Mirage.

Mercier, a 40-year-old company, was actually started by a cabinet maker who brought his love of wood to hardwood flooring, is a pioneer in the prefinished wood floor. Mirage offers an assortment of wood grades, finishes, textures, and installation techniques. As a hardwood flooring retailer, we only carry from the highest quality companies.

Mercier: What it does for the environment

This company has a controlled wood supply with all species from sustainably managed North American forests and adhering to rigorous traceability standards. What little waste the company produces gets recycled to heat the factory or used for packaging.

The company is certified Greenguard Gold, which confirms that their finishes are free of chemicals and VOCs (volatile organic compounds, which compromise indoor air quality). Of particular note, this was the first company to use plant-based oil finishes. Their wood floors are in many LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) buildings. LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world.

Mirage: Sustainable development

Mirage takes a three-pronged progressive approach, including green programs and those that benefit society and the economy. As company officials say, there is no better way to meet the needs of the without compromising future generations' ability to meet their own needs.

All products comply with EPA TSCA Title VI certification standards, which sets the most stringent formaldehyde standards for wood products. Also, over 85% of domestic species' purchase comes from sawmills within 500 miles of the company plant to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, and finishes are hypoallergenic. They recycle, reduce consumption, and also have a controlled wood supply.
